Cliche Baseball Sayings
"Step and throw"............the ball is hit to pitcher and only play is at first base
"Stay down".................when a ground ball is hit to an infielder
"Help yourself".............pitcher is up to bat with runners in scoring position
"Keep it out of the gap"....outfielders position themselves to prevent a hit to RC/LC
"Ear hole"..................purposely hit the batter
"Ham and eggs"..............double play situation
"Turn two"..................double play situation
"Let's get a ground ball"...double play situation
"Twist it"..................double play situation
"Roll it"...................double play situation
"Can of corn"...............easy pop up is hit
"Guard the lines"...........first and third baseman position themselves close to the foul lines
"Rock and fire".............encouragement to the pitcher
"One pitch, one strike".....encouragement to the pitcher when count is 3 balls, 0 strikes
"All the way back"..........encouragement to the pitcher when count is 3 balls, 0 strikes
"Climb the ladder"..........pitcher throws a series of pitches, each higher in the strike zone than the previous
"Don't lose him"............encouragement to the pitcher when count was 0-2 and is currently 3-2
"That's not you"............batter swings at a bad pitch or an umpire calls a strike that is out of the zone
"Good eye"..................batter takes a pitch that is called a ball...usually late in the count
"Leave that up/down"........batter takes a pitch that is high/low
"Get yours".................get a pitch that you can hit
"Not yours".................umpire calls a strike that is out of the zone or batter swings at a bad pitch
"Nobody better".............encouragement to batter/pitcher
"Stay hot"..................batter is currently hitting the ball well
"You're due"................batter is in a slump
"Ducks on the pond".........runners are in scoring position
"How about a little BINGO"..runners are in scoring position
"Trade places with him".....batter is up with a guy on second base
"Clutch up".................batter is up with runners in scoring position
"Hit it where they ain't"...batter is up
"Frozen rope"...............after a batter hits a line drive
"Spin his cap"..............hit one back up the middle
"Chuck and duck"............to pitcher when a ball is hit back up the middle
"Make it hurt"..............after an error
"Hit's a run"...............batter is up with bases loaded
"Walk's a run"..............batter is up with 3 balls and bases are loaded
"Walk's as good as a hit"...batter is up with 3 balls and bases are loaded
"Stay back".................encouragement to batter to keep his weight back
"Head on it"................encouragement to batter to keep his on the ball
"Go yard"...................home run
"Good wood".................well hit ball
"Way to hang"...............batter fouls off a pitch with 2 strikes
"Good spoil"................batter fouls off a pitch with 2 strikes
"Gotta hit 'em ta get 'em"..short fence doesn't necessarily mean a lot of HRs
"The HOOD"....................batter has 3 strikeouts in a game
"The GOLDEN SOMBRERO".........batter has 4 strikeouts in a game
"The PETERSON"..............when a batter goes 0-5 with 4 K's and hit into a DP (@Osceola '02)
"Skammina, Skimmina"..........not sure
"Hit the ball, run like hell".....encouragement to batter
"Pick a berry"....................grab pants and pull out of butt?
"Bat's a whip"....................use the bat as a whip?
